Soybeans in South Africa are grown in the summer rainfall areas, in which Mpumalanga and the Free State being the biggest producer of this crop. The use of soybeans varies as they are staples for vegan and vegetarian diets like tofu and soymilk, they can also be used in fermented food like soysauce. The production of soybeans has vastly increased due to the demand for plant-based proteins.

Sunflowers in South Africa are a summer-growing oil-seed crop, this crop is mostly grown in the Free State as well as the North West. The main product that is made from the sunflower crop is oil. The sunflower crop is relatively drought tolerant as well as has lower input costs compared to other summer crops. The main diseases that can be found in the sunflower crop are as a result of fungi. Therefore, pest and diseases control should be according to an intergrated pest management practice and should only be sprayed by registered sprays to be used on the sunflower crop.
